Dear Residency Candidates:
I
am pleased that you are considering the Family Medicine Residency
at the University of North Carolina. Our Department is nationally
recognized for leadership in primary care and innovations
in education and clinical care. North Carolina has made a
strong commitment to family medicine as evidenced by our Family
Medicine building and generous state funding for department
activities. Our department has a reciprocal commitment to
our state; we graduate excellent family physicians, of which
most serve North Carolinians, many with special emphasis on
the underserved. We play a vital role in the medical school
curriculum through a required third year clerkship and a variety
of other courses that offer students and residents with opportunities
to learn, teach and provide service. Numerous fellowship programs
and our renowned School of Public Health are available to
our graduates who seek further clinical or academic training.
With its beautiful, historic campus, its small-town atmosphere,
and convenient access to many cultural and recreational opportunities,
it is easy to see why Chapel Hill is known as "the Southern
Part of Heaven".
Everyone in this Department is committed to providing
you with the best possible clinical training with ample opportunity
to develop skills for a variety of career tracks and practice
environments. My colleagues and I welcome the opportunity
to show you what we offer for this crucial next phase of your
medical training.
