Acting Internships

The best way to check out our residency program is to do an acting internship (AI). This will give you an opportunity to work closely with residents from all 3 years of training. You will be an integral part of a team of resident and attending physicians who provide the care for patients on our Family Practice Inpatient Service. You will have primary responsibility for the care of your assigned patients, the opportunity to work in the family practice outpatient clinic, and can attend conferences and seminars in a real-time experience of what our program has to offer for residency training. Working closely with the residents will give you a sense of the groups' personality and allows you to assess for yourself the all-important subjective fit this program has for you. Over the course of a month you will have ample opportunity to inquire about rotation specifics and life in the residency. The best time to do these rotations is in the first 6 months of the 4th year or the last 6 months of your third year. A fuller description of the Family Practice Inpatient Service can be found under "Training Sites".

Eligibility requirements and the application process for visiting students who seek electives at UNC's School of Medicine can be found on the website page link to the Office of Student Affairs. If you are interested in more information about how to set up a rotation with our FP Inpatient Service specifically, contact the Administrative Assistant for Medical Student Programs, Carolyn Joines, at 919-966-2824.
